Robert Boehme, CEO & Founder

As our company name ‘Planetary Transportation Systems’ already suggests, we are concerned about bringing things and especially services into space. Our goal is to make space more accessible and, most importantly, commercially viable for all of us through standardisation and the use of everyday industry standards. Here, the focus is on the development of avionics, meaning electronics and software solutions, individually as well as in tandem. This can be the case both on earth for IoT solutions such as on board of a spacecraft, but also for the new Ariane 6 Kickstage.

What use cases is the company working on?

PTS Landing Unit

We are currently working with industry partners on very exciting, innovative IoT and logistics projects. In space, we are drawn to present our avionics as soon as possible in an exciting technology demonstration. In addition, together with our partners of the ArianeGroup, we are trying to win the contract for the new Ariane 6 Kickstage in order to make the new Ariane programme and the use of our electronics and software from Berlin significantly more competitive.

What are the challenges you are currently facing in the ‘IoT in space’ sector?

PTS Landing Unit

We are very curious to see how the small launcher business will develop and, of course, what the next steps will be in the race to the moon between the US and China. Both of these open up several opportunities for private space travel. The biggest challenge is often either to get access to the relevant government programmes, which is unfortunately rather difficult from Europe, or to build up one’s own strong commercial fields with customers and partners.
