In order to reflect these changes and foster discussion of their impact on the economy and society, Messe Frankfurt has launched Hypermotion. With this move, Messe Frankfurt’s Mobility & Logistics business division has bridged a gap in the German and international trade fair market, for this is the first independent platform focusing on the overarching theme of digital transformation in the transport sector. Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, explains: “Current industry trends make it clear that the boundaries between logistics, mobility, infrastructure and transport need to be overcome. It is with this in mind that Messe Frankfurt is launching an entirely new event format that is a mix of exhibitions, conferences, pitches, talks and a hackathon. The focus is on new business models, fostering exchange and networking everyone involved.”
Exhibitors at Hypermotion include established firms from the transport and logistics industry, small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups, mobility pioneers and entrepreneurs. Brose, Contact2Car, DB Netze, Drivee, Framo, Hamburger Hochbahn, PTV Group, Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund, SICK, Signon Deutschland, SSI Schäfer and Teradata have already signed on, as have Bosch Service Solutions, Loadfox, RWTH Aachen, UPS and TÜV Rheinland. In cooperation with Hessen Trade and Invest GmbH and MoWiN.net, House of Logistics and Mobility GmbH (HOLM) is organising a Hessian Pavilion on the theme of digitisation.
Hackathon, pitches, talks and support for trade fair participation by start-ups
Under the motto “Next Generation Mobility”, Hypermotion will bring together the next generation of software, hardware and UX specialists that hope to take the market by storm with their innovative concepts. Developers, designers and strategists will be able to tackle real challenges at the hackathon, experiment with cutting-edge technology and put their skills to the test in a competition for attractive prizes. Start-up pitches offer entrepreneurs and visionaries the perfect stage on which to present their disruptive ideas to a panel of respected experts, while informative and entertaining talks will be a source of additional ideas and inspiration. Furthermore, young German companies can present their products and services on especially favourable terms in a special area for start-ups. Numerous start-ups have developed new digital business models that they will be presenting at Hypermotion. One of these firms is Loadfox, a technology start-up based in Munich that offers a freight-pooling service. Mesaic Technology GmbH has developed a communication platform that helps companies deal with changed consumer behaviour and increasing customer requirements for logistics such as on-demand and same-day delivery. Berlin-based start-up M2MGo is dedicated to “fast and simple networking” for processing raw data in real time, and has developed an enterprise content management system for this purpose.
The event is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and the State of Hesse (represented by the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport and Regional Development – HMWEVL), and is supported by all of the major German transport and mobility associations.
DAM Lab – five international architecture firms focus on new mobility, new forms of living and their regional integration
In summer 2018, the “Living the Region” exhibition will be held in the German Architecture Museum (DAM) in Frankfurt. The exhibition focuses on the development of the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main metropolitan region under an overarching thesis, “Design matters”, positing good design as being instrumental to successfully integrating the wide-ranging demands placed on the region. Designers, architects and planners are all called upon to develop attractive visions for the metropolitan region. Concrete visions of the region’s future will be formulated in autumn 2017 in the DAM Lab workshop within the framework of Hypermotion 2017. International planners, designers and architects will be developing integrative visions of new forms of living and residential development for typical areas within the region in conjunction with new and sustainable forms of mobility. In light of the region’s growth, this will involve the integration, strengthening and expansion of unbuilt spaces and settled areas, giving rise to solutions for the development of a networked hypermodal region for the future.
Conference series on the topics of digitisation, ITS and intermodality
The exhibition area of Hypermotion is not the only place where smart networking will be the focus, for the accompanying conference series on the topics of digitisation, ITS (intelligent transport systems) and intermodality will see more than 150 respected speakers and partners promoting networking and the exchange of knowledge.
It all kicks off on 20 November with the well-established 5th ZEIT CONFERENCE on Logistics and Mobility entitled “Digitisation, Disruption, Decarbonisation” with a roster of high-calibre speakers such as Prof. Dr. Johann-Dietrich Wörner, Director General of the European Space Agency (ESA), Dr. Frank Appel, Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Post AG, and Dr. Sigrid Evelyn Nikutta, Chairperson of the Executive Board and Operational Director of Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG). At the same time, the VISION mobility think tank will be conducting a number of panel discussions on the themes of connectivity, hypermodality and smart regions.
